Social security guarantees a decent income when it is threatened during unemployment, illness, disability and old age, as well as due to the birth of a child and the loss of a guardian. Society must ensure adequate health and social services for everyone. The right to social security is laid down in the Constitution.
Operations
Kela, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland, has a responsibility to provide basic support in life’s ups and downs to everyone covered by the Finnish social security system. Kela is also actively involved in making the social security system better.
