Kela stopped paying national pensions to recipients who live outside Finland in countries that apply EU regulations on 1 February 2025. This change may have an impact on which country is responsible for the costs of the affected person’s medical care and on whether they can receive care allowance for pensioners. The change may also affect the amount of national pension paid to recipients who live in Finland but who have previously lived or worked in an EU or EEA country, Switzerland or the United Kingdom.

More people with student loan debt received assistance with their student loan interest payments in 2024 than in previous years. The number of recipients doubled from 2023. Rising interest rates and higher student loan debt loads have increased the need for the assistance.

Assistance with student loan interest: A record number of recipients in 2024

About 25,700 students receiving financial aid had income in excess of the annual income limit in 2023. They have received a preliminary decision on the recovery of overpaid financial aid. The annual income limits for student financial aid have been raised in recent years, leading to fewer cases where overpaid financial aid has had to be recovered.

The OmaKela e-service may lag and users may experience slower than normal performance between 14.00 and 17.00 on 20–21 February and again on 24–25 February. Kela is expecting a temporary increase in traffic to the e-service because Kela is about to send a letter to students in higher education prompting them to pay their student healthcare fee.  We apologise for any inconvenience.

Henkilöasiakkaiden asiointipalvelussa OmaKelassa voi esiintyä ruuhkaa ja hidastelua 20.2. ja 21.2. sekä 24.2. ja 25.2. klo 14.00 - 17.00 välillä. Korkeakouluopiskelijoille lähetetään infokirje opiskelijoiden terveydenhoitomaksusta, jonka seurauksena odotetaan ruuhkaa OmaKelaan. Pahoittelemme häiriöstä aiheutuvaa haittaa.

If you are acting on behalf of another person, you need a specific power of attorney from that person and proof of your identity.</p><p>If you bring your online banking credentials or a mobile certificate, you can manage your Kela-related affairs on a self-service computer at the service point.</p><p>You are permitted to bring a guide dog, an assistance dog or a government working dog to a service point.</p>
