Kela has been reworking the content on kela.fi over the past year. The updated pages on social assistance are now ready for publication. Work on the pages has included streamlining the content and improving the clarity. Subjects that customers find complicated are now explained even more clearly.

The application process for the maternity grant in OmaKela changed on 14 December 2024. You can now apply for a maternity grant in OmaKela using the online application form Vanhempainetuudet (benefits for parents). You can also apply for other benefits for parents on the same application form.

Changes to maternity grant application process in OmaKela

There will be a number of changes to Kela benefits and their eligibility criteria in 2025. Some of the changes will take effect at the beginning of 2025, others not until later in the year. Many of the changes affect benefits for young people and students. There will also be changes to sickness benefits.

Kela monitors students’ academic progress annually. This autumn, the academic progress of some 265,000 higher education students was monitored. Based on the results of the monitoring, student financial aid will be discontinued for about 3,000 students.
