Government proposes changes to initial deductible on medicine expenses starting 1 January 2025
The Government proposes to increase the initial deductible on reimbursements for medicine expenses from EUR 50 to EUR 70. In addition, the Government proposes that the initial deductible should be linked to the National Pensions Index, so that the initial deductible would be adjusted annually in future. The changes would take effect on 1 January 2025.
Kela will provide reimbursements for your medicine expenses after you have paid the annual initial deductible. In 2024, the initial deductible is EUR 50.
The Government proposes to increase the initial deductible on reimbursements for medicine expenses from EUR 50 to EUR 70. In addition, the initial deductible would be tied to the National Pensions Index, so that the initial deductible would then be index adjusted every year.
The initial deductible would still be applied from the beginning of the year in which a young person turns 19.
If the legislative amendment is approved by Parliament, the changes will enter into force on 1 January 2025.
