Can I get sickness allowance on account of human cell, tissue or organ donation?
You can get sickness allowance from Kela on account of human cell, tissue or organ donation (donor allowance) if you experience loss of income as a consequence of the donation and the necessary medical examinations associated with it. However, this allowance is not paid to donors of blood, eggs or sperm.
How much sickness allowance on account of human cell, tissue or organ donation can I get?
The amount of sickness allowance on account of human cell, tissue or organ donation (donor allowance) per diem in 2025 is 70 per cent of your annual income divided by 300, up to an annual income of EUR 35,769. For annual income exceeding this, the amount of sickness allowance is 20 per cent of the income divided by 300.
Donor allowance is paid for working days. In this context, working days are the days from Monday to Saturday, except for mid-week holidays.
The donor allowance is taxable income. It is taxed in the same way as sickness allowance.
If your employer pays you sick pay for the duration of your absence from work, Kela will pay the allowance to your employer.
