Adaptation training courses for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities and disorders and multiple or physical disabilities
Kela provides family courses for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities and disorders and congenital multiple or physical disabilities. The adaptation training is multidisciplinary and group-based.
At the course, the child and the family are provided with support to manage problems in their daily life and help to handle the situation. The aim of the rehabilitation is to improve functional capacity, life management and self-care skills. At the course, the family is also given information about the condition or disorder from which the child is suffering and about rehabilitation practices and support networks available in their area.
There are four different family courses for children. They are intended for children who have
- a developmental disability or disorder, or a congenital multiple or physical disability
- a rare developmental disability
- Down’s syndrome
- cerebral palsy or some other congenital physical disability
Kela also arranges a partial family course for adolescents with a developmental disability or disorder, or a congenital multiple or physical disability.
