Entering service?

  1. Find out if you, your partner or your child are entitled to conscript’s allowance.
    Conscript's allowance can be paid in the form of housing assistance, assistance towards interest payments on student loans, basic assistance, special assistance and maintenance assistance.

  2. Apply for conscript’s allowance
    You cannot apply for conscript’s allowance retroactively. You can submit an application for conscript’s allowance approximately one month before entering military service. If your partner is entitled to conscript’s allowance, they must submit their own application.

  3. Notify Kela if you interrupt your service
    If your service is interrupted, your right to conscript's allowance ends. Other changes in your circumstances can also affect your conscript’s allowance. Please let us know if there are changes in, for example, your income.

  4. Back to civilian life What now?
    Do you have a job lined up or will you go back to school? Any social security benefits you may have received before entering service (such as financial aid for students) are not resumed automatically. Remember to re-apply for them. If you do not have a job or a place in education, register as a jobseeker with TE Services.

  5. Going to refresher training?
    You can get conscript’s allowance if you participate in refresher training or supplementary service.
