Cards and certificates for pensioners

Card for national pension recipients

Kela will automatically send you card for national pension recipients if you are under the age of 65 and receive a full national pension in the form of an old-age or disability pension. You can use the card to show that you receive a national pension.

You will also receive the card if your national pension is less than the full amount and you do not receive an earnings-related pension from Finland.

You cannot get the card if you receive rehabilitation subsidy (temporary disability pension) from Kela.

The authorised pension providers usually have their own cards for pension recipients.

If you lose your card

You can apply for a card for pension recipients by calling our customer service number 020 634 2650 or by sending a message in the OmaKela e-service (available in Finnish and Swedish).

No fee is charged for the ordering of a new card.

Certificate of pension

You can get a certificate from Kela that proves that you receive a Kela pension.

To request the certificate, use the OmaKela e-service to send a message, visit a Kela customer service point or call the customer service number 020 634 2650.

Discounts

Many service providers offer pensioner discounts. For example, pensioners can pay a reduced fare when using VR (vr.fi)Matkahuolto (matkahuolto.fi), HSL (hsl.fi) or other public transport services.

You can get a discount for instance by presenting a card for national pension recipients or a photo ID, or by producing a written certificate issued by Kela that shows that you receive a pension.

The exact discounts or other benefits available are up to the individual service providers. The service providers also decide what kind of proof they require to qualify for discounts or benefits. For details, contact the service provider.
