Report changes
Remember to report any changes in your circumstances to Kela so that you can be paid the correct amount of school transport subsidy.
Report any changes in the OmaKela e-service (in Finnish and Swedish). You can also call telephone assistance for students.
Alternatively you can complete and print out a notification of changes form KM 4e (pdf).
If a period of on-the-job training that is included in vocational education is paid, the period is considered as apprenticeship training, and for this period you cannot get school transport subsidy. If you know when your training will end and only want to stop the subsidy for a certain period of time, tell us about it either in the OmaKela e-service (in Finnish and Swedish) or by calling us.
If a period of on-the-job training is unpaid, the period is considered as a training agreement period, and for this period you can get school transport subsidy. If your trip to school changes, fill in an application for school transport subsidy in OmaKela.
If you wish to cancel the subsidy altogether, tell us about it either in the OmaKela e-service (in Finnish and Swedish) or by calling us.
If you know that you will not be entitled to school transport subsidy during a training agreement period, tell us about it either in the OmaKela e-service (in Finnish and Swedish) or by calling us.
If you change schools or apply for school transport subsidy for new studies, fill in an application for school transport subsidy in OmaKela (in Finnish and Swedish). If you wish to cancel the subsidy, tell us about it either in the OmaKela e-service (in Finnish and Swedish) or by calling us.
If your education or training will be arranged at a different location than before, fill in an application for school transport subsidy in OmaKela. If you wish to cancel the subsidy, tell us about it either in the OmaKela e-service (in Finnish and Swedish) or by calling us.
If you change study programme (for instance to studies for another basic qualification) at the same campus, the change need not be reported.
If you for instance start studying for a vocational or specialist vocational qualification, you can no longer get school transport subsidy. Report the change in the OmaKela e-service (in Finnish and Swedish) or by calling us.
If you move, the school transport subsidy must be adjusted or cancelled.
If you apply for school transport subsidy for a new address, fill in an application for school transport subsidy in OmaKela (in Finnish and Swedish). If you wish to cancel the subsidy, tell us about it either in the OmaKela e-service (in Finnish and Swedish) or by calling us.
Your means of transport changes if, for instance, you start using Matkahuolto buses instead of Waltti bus services, or if you start using your own car instead of using public transport.
If you will be using a different means of transport, fill in an application for school transport subsidy in OmaKela (in Finnish and Swedish).
If you take Waltti, HSL, the Tampere Regional Transport (Nysse) or the Turku Region Transport (Föli), or Matkahuolto buses, and the price of the ticket changes, you do not have to notify Kela.
If you take some other public transport (for instance VR trains) and the school transport subsidy is paid into your bank account, you must report the change to Kela. Report the change in the ticket price either in the OmaKela e-service (in Finnish and Swedish) or by calling us.
You are not entitled to school transport subsidy for the period that you study abroad.
If you go abroad as an exchange student or to complete on-the-job training, you are no longer entitled to school transport subsidy. Report the change in our e-service OmaKela (in Finnish and Swedish) or by calling us.
If you know when the period of study abroad will end and you wish to cancel the school transport subsidy only for a certain period of time, report the change either in OmaKela or by calling us. State the period that you will stay abroad and describe the daily school trips that you will have after the period abroad.
If your studies are interrupted for more than two weeks for instance due to illness and you do not go to school every day during this time, you must report this to Kela. Kela will withdraw your school transport subsidy. Notify us in the OmaKela e-service (in Finnish and Swedish) or by calling us. General school holidays do not have to be reported.
When you continue your studies after the interruption, you must apply for school transport subsidy again. Fill in an application for school transport subsidy in OmaKela.
If you graduate in the middle of the school year, you must report to Kela that you have completed your studies. You can do that in the OmaKela e-service (in Finnish and Swedish) or by calling us.
