Disability benefits in international situations

Disability allowance for persons under 16 years

Moving to Finland

Disability allowance for persons under 16 years can be awarded to a child who moves to Finland on a permanent basis and who meets the other entitlement criteria. Disability allowance for persons under 16 years can usually not be granted until the child is insured under the Finnish social security system. Coverage by the social security system is based on residence.

If you move abroad as a family

Disability allowance can be paid for a child who lives abroad when the child is covered under the Finnish social security system. A child who lives in another EU or EEA country or in Switzerland can in certain situations also be entitled to disability allowance if the child’s parent works for a Finnish employer or is insured in Finland on account of self-employment.
