Adaptation training course for adults with rheumatism
Applications to courses arranged in 2025 may be submitted later in the spring.
- The rehabilitation course is suitable for you, if
- you are over 18 and have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, spinal arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis or some other inflammatory joint disorder.
- you are in need of multidisciplinary rehabilitation and the initial treatment period has ended or your condition is otherwise stable
- you are able to function independently enough to move around the service provider’s premises and to participate in the rehabilitation without constant assistance.
- you wish to participate in face-to-face and telerehabilitation.
The course is also available in Swedish.
Service providers
The courses for rheumatism and psoriatic arthritis are open to applicants from all over Finland, i.e. you can select a suitable service provider anywhere in Finland. The service provider search will be later in the spring. A more specific date will be announced later. Please note, the service is in Finnish and Swedish only.
Purpose of the course
The aim of the course is to provide support and guidance and to help you cope in everyday life. The course aims to increase your resources and skills so that you are able to participate in activities in your own living environment.
Content of the course and implementation
The rehabilitation is implemented as group rehabilitation taking each client’s individual goal and need for rehabilitation into consideration.
The course includes group discussions and working in small groups, a variety of activities as well as individual interviews, meetings and discussions with rehabilitation experts.
The rehabilitation is partly arranged as periods of group rehabilitation on the service provider’s premises and partly as telerehabilitation. If necessary, the service provider will lend you the device needed for you to be able to participate in telerehabilitation.
The part of the course that is arranged on the service provider’s premises lasts 10 days, and it is divided into 5-day periods.
You can stay overnight at the place of the rehabilitation or travel there from home each day.
The telerehabilitation part of the course is implemented over a period of 8 weeks during the times between the group rehabilitation periods. The telerehabilitation consists of
- online rehabilitation at a time suitable to you
- guidance for participation in online rehabilition
- 3 individual videoconferencing sessions
- 2 days of group-based telerehabilitation.
A videoconferencing session lasts 45 minutes on average. A group telerehabilitation day lasts at least 4 hours. You can apply for rehabilitation allowance from Kela for the group days.
The service provider contacts you before and after the rehabilitation.
Course personnel
The course is implemented by the following experts:
- specialist in rheumatology
- physiotherapist
- psychologist
- registered nurse, public health nurse or rheumatology nurse.
Depending on your individual needs, other rehabilitation professionals and assisting personnel may also take part.
